One of the things I learned more about at The Future of Web Apps was Microformats. The talk on Microformats was given by Tantek Çelik who is CTO of Technorati and it was easily one of the more interesting concepts covered at the conference (to me, at least.) I probably appreciated it so much because …
“Future of Web Apps” Conference was Incredible!
The past two days I attended Carson Workshop’s "The Future of Web Apps" presented at The Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco and I must say it was one of the best conferences I’ve been to in years! Every one of the speakers was excellent each providing invaluable insight, and the energy level was …

East Coast Web 2.0 Conference Sept 20th 2006
Wow. Looks like I’m going to be headed to the "Web 2.0 Conference for Business" in Tyson’s Corner, Virginia (near DC) next week. I’m psyched! Like I said previously, the Microsoft conferences are passe; the energy these days can be found with the Web 2.0 crowd! The conference is a little pricy at $595 for …

Kudos to Microsoft: Visual Studio Express Tools Free Forever!
I just learned that Microsoft has decided to make the Visual Studio Express tools free forever. This to me shows Microsoft’s acknowledgment that people are not willing to invest their time learning a product that they will eventually have to pay more for then they have funds available or earmarked, especially young people. I greatly applaud …

Simple Solution to Phishing Epidemic?
Call me simplistic, but it seems to me that there is a relatively simple solution to the phishing epidemic, assuming those in control of the Internet would like to stop it. Since almost all phishing emails using a hyperlinks something like http://www.MyBigBankName.com.bad_guys_domain.info/login.html, eliminating it would be a simple as ICANN cancelling domain registrations for anyone caught …

If (indirectly) addresses my #1 wish for IIS7: a mod_rewrite functionality. Well, it doesn’t address it per se, but it allows me, or any other .NET developer to address …
Anti-phishing tactic helps the “Well Designed Url” cause
Today Joris Evers on CNET posted an article about the security developers for the four main web browsers discussing how to make surfing the Web safer. One of the tactics mentioned was Microsoft plans for IIS7 to show the URL in the address bar on all Internet windows to help users identify fraudulent sites. Whereas …

All your Base are belong to Google?
When I saw that Google Base just went live, my first thought was "All your base are belong to us." I fear this might be ironic. After a quick Google I found I wasn’t the only one to have thought this.
Technologies are best when they are simple
What’s the next big thing? AJAX? Ruby on Rails? PC Virtualization? Open-Source Software? Data Security? Open Office File Formats? Windows Vista? Windows Live? Apple’s iWhatever? Yeah, all those things will get lots of hype, but the next big thing is something we’ve had access to all along: Simplicity Are my thoughts revolutionary? Nah, I’ve been …

FolderShare bought by Microsoft, and now (currently) free!
I’ve been using FolderShare for a few months now and love it. But I just heard that Microsoft bought it and that it is now free. Cool! If you normally work on a desktop but need a laptop for travel, FolderShare is a "must have.’ If you need to share files with people who are …
